Judge Harry J. Bowden
Senior Officiant | 247ATL Weddings
The M.A.J. Bowden Legacy Center
For Judge Harry J. Bowden, a wedding ceremony is more than the exchange of vows. It is the beginning of a partnership, a commitment, and a plan for building a life together.
A retired judge, attorney, husband, father, grandfather, and longtime advocate for strong families, Judge Bowden brings a distinctive perspective to every ceremony he performs—one shaped by the law, family, marriage, life experience, and an enduring belief in the power of love.
Judge Bowden entered Morehouse College at age 16 and graduated at 20 before attending Howard University School of Law, where he earned his law degree at 23. His legal career began in 1985 and ultimately included decades of service in the judiciary before his retirement from the bench in 2019.
As retirement approached, Judge Bowden began performing civil wedding ceremonies and developing new ways to make marriage ceremonies accessible to couples. That work expanded through StreamingVows, including both in-person and online ceremonies during the COVID era. Since leaving the bench, he has had the privilege of joining countless couples in marriage.
Today, he serves as Senior Officiant of 247ATL Weddings, personally performing ceremonies while collaborating with other professional officiants who share a commitment to making each couple feel welcomed, respected, comfortable, and celebrated regardless of background.
A Philosophy of Marriage
Judge Bowden approaches marriage with both warmth and practicality.
He believes that marriage is a deeply personal union, but it is also a partnership and a contract between two individuals and their higher authority. A successful marriage requires more than simply finding the right person—it requires understanding one another, establishing the terms of the partnership, and developing a plan for navigating life together.
His philosophy is straightforward:
Love brings two people together. Commitment gives the relationship strength. Communication, understanding, and a shared plan help a marriage endure.
That philosophy is informed not only by decades in the law, but also by Judge Bowden’s own experiences as a husband, father of a large blended family, and grandfather. Family has taught him that successful relationships are built over time through patience, sacrifice, forgiveness, responsibility, laughter, and a continuing decision to love.
The Woman Behind the Legacy
At the heart of 247ATL Weddings and the M.A.J. Bowden Legacy Center is the extraordinary influence of Judge Bowden’s mother, Mary Alberta Jaudon Bowden.
The Bowden family property was originally acquired in 1986. Over the years, Mrs. Bowden became intimately involved in the property and the development that would ultimately become Legacy.
One day, as mother and son sat together on the balcony of the adjoining family property watching the center take shape, Mrs. Bowden looked toward the development and said:
“That really looks beautiful. I want you to make sure you make it a place where everyone feels loved.”
Those words became a mandate.
They also captured the life of the woman who spoke them.
Mary Alberta Jaudon Bowden was born in Brunswick, Georgia, the eldest of nine siblings. A gifted educator and community leader, she devoted 34 years to teaching generations of students and pursued excellence throughout her professional and personal life. She graduated magna cum laude from Johnson C. Smith University and later earned her Master’s degree in Education from Atlanta University.
She was a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha and participated actively in social, community, and religious organizations. Those who knew her remember a woman of intelligence, quick wit, high standards, strong faith, and an unwavering drive for excellence.
She was also devoted to family.
Mrs. Bowden shared 61 years of marriage with John E. Bowden Sr. and was the mother of two sons, Harry and John Jr. In her later years, Harry became her primary caretaker, and she remained closely connected to the family and the development of Legacy.
After a long battle with breast cancer, Mary Alberta Jaudon Bowden passed away on July 28, 2026.
But her instructions remain.
The M.A.J. Bowden Legacy Center
The naming of the M.A.J. Bowden Legacy Center is therefore more than a tribute.
It is a promise.
Mrs. Bowden envisioned Legacy as a place where God lives, people gather, life is enjoyed, and everyone who enters can experience love.
Judge Bowden intends to preserve that vision in everything that happens here.
For couples beginning married life at 247ATL Weddings, that means entering an environment intentionally created to be warm, comfortable, intimate, welcoming, and inspiring.
It means being treated not simply as another ceremony on a schedule, but as two people standing at the beginning of something important.
And it means beginning that journey in a place built around a mother’s simple but enduring instruction:
“Make it a place where everyone feels loved.”
That is the spirit of the M.A.J. Bowden Legacy Center.
That is the foundation of 247ATL Weddings.
And for Judge Harry J. Bowden, there could be no better place to help two people begin their life together.
